Buses (operated by Stagecoach) leave frequently from Lancaster Bus Station, or Common Garden Street (next to the Primark shopping mall) for the campus. From Common Garden Street the journey takes about 15 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. The fare is £2.20, cash or card (mobile tickets also available - see the Stagecoach webpage or app).

Bus numbers 100 and 100A are the most frequent, but there are several others. Number 42 goes to/from the railway station, though less frequently. Information is posted at bus stops and on the Stagecoach webpage or app.

Trains to/from Lancaster connect to all parts of the UK, and are convenient for participants flying to Manchester or London. The railway staton is in the city, about 5 minutes walk from Common Garden Street (or about 10 minutes walk from the bus station).

There are direct trains between Manchester Airport and Lancaster. The journey takes about 80 minutes and the current (August 2026) price of an "off-peak return ticket" is £39.70. The ticket is valid on any train, operated by any train company, at any time of day, and no seat reservation is needed. Cheaper "advance tickets" are also available but are restricted to particular trains (full information is available at the Trainline website).

There are direct trains operated by Avanti between London Euston and Lancaster. The journey takes about 2.5 hours and the current (August 2026) price of an "off-peak return ticket" is £126.70. The ticket is valid on any Avanti train leaving London after 09:05 Monday-Thursday, and on any train leaving Lancaster which arrives in London after 10:05 Monday-Thursday. There are no time restrictions Friday-Sunday. Seat reservations are possible. Cheaper "advance tickets" are also available but are restricted to particular trains (full information is available at the Trainline website).

The "off-peak return ticket" can be bought on the day of travel (or before) at stations, or online.

Train schedules are usually modified over the Christmas/New Year period, and there is a possibility of a price increase in early January. This page will be updated if there are any major changes.

For people coming by car, the university is just off the M6 motorway. If you come off at Junction 33, you get to a roundabout; take the northbound exit through Galgate and follow the road until you see signs for the university. There is on-site parking (£8.00 for 24 hours); full information can be found on the university's parking page.
