The UK-Japan Winter Schools have been held since 1999 in the UK. Every year the focus is on a special topic. The aim of the School is to bring together Japanese and UK scientists, in particular also young researchers and students from mathematics and mathematical physics, in a relaxing and stimulating atmosphere. In 2027 the topic will be symplectic topology.
Symplectic topology is an active and growing part of pure mathematics which grew out of Hamiltonian dynamics, but nowadays touches on many parts of mathematics, including algebraic geometry, representation theory and metric geometry. The Winter School will bring together some of the people who are pushing forward the frontiers of symplectic topology, with a strong emphasis on how it can be used to illuminate other areas.
